Wine and Cheese Strata
1 loaf French bread, cut in 1-inch cubes
1/4 c. butter, melted
2 c. Swiss Cheese, grated
1 1/3 c. Monterey Jack cheese, grated
1 lb. ham, chopped
11 large eggs
2 1/2 c. milk
1 c. dry red wine
2 tsp. mustard powder
dash of black pepper
1/2 c. parmesan cheese
1/3 tsp. red pepper
1 c. sour cream
Butter a 9x12 dish. Place bread on the bottom of the dish and drizzle with the melted butter. Layer the grated cheeses and ham over the bread.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, wine, mustard powder, parmesan cheese, and red and black peppers. Pour the liquid mixture over the layers and refigerate overnight.
Bake uncovered in a 325F oven for 1 hour. Spread the top with sour cream and bake uncovered for 10 more minutes. Cool for five minutes and cut into squares.
